Doctoral (PhD) Student Position in Vaccine Immunology
Investigate vaccine-induced immunity and B cell responses against respiratory viruses in older adults.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in immunology, biomedicine, or cell biology with a strong background in molecular biology techniques and a passion for vaccine research.
Overview
Karolinska Institutet invites applications for a 4-year doctoral student position in vaccine immunology within Professor Karin Loré's research group at the Department of Medicine, Solna. The research focuses on understanding how natural infection and vaccination shape respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunity in older populations, with an emphasis on B cell and antibody responses. The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art immunological methods, analyze clinical and longitudinal cohorts, and contribute to the development of next-generation vaccines. The appointee will follow an individual study plan, complete elective courses, and benefit from an inspiring academic environment.
What you'll do
- Execute an independent doctoral research project focusing on RSV-specific immunity and antibody responses in older adults
- Process biological samples from clinical vaccine studies, biobanks, and longitudinal human cohorts
- Perform state-of-the-art immunological assays including flow cytometry, virus neutralization assays, and antigen-specific B cell isolation
- Conduct B cell receptor repertoire sequencing and recombinant monoclonal antibody generation
- Analyze experimental data and integrate findings to contribute to scientific publications and presentations
- Collaborate actively with internal team members, academic partners, and external stakeholders
