PhD Position in Electrocatalytic NOx-to-Ammonia Conversion
Develop novel electrochemical systems for sustainable NOx-to-ammonia conversion at a leading European research institute.
Best for:Best for chemistry or materials science graduates with electrochemistry experience, seeking a PhD in sustainable energy conversion and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Overview
This PhD position at Forschungszentrum Jülich’s Institute of Energy Technologies focuses on advancing electrocatalytic NOx-to-ammonia conversion. The successful candidate will conduct experimental research spanning catalyst synthesis, electrochemical studies, and integrated system optimization. The project integrates collaborations with international partners, including ETH Zurich, and emphasizes interdisciplinary research within a dynamic team. The role is ideal for motivated candidates with a background in chemistry, electrochemistry, or materials science seeking to contribute to sustainable energy solutions.
What you'll do
- Conduct electrochemical studies to optimize NOx-to-ammonia conversion, focusing on electrode potential, current density, electrolyte composition, and mass transport in half-cell configurations.
- Investigate and optimize integrated electrochemical systems, evaluating the impact of electrolyte, membrane properties, and operating conditions on full-cell performance.
- Develop and characterize NOx reduction catalysts through synthesis, electrochemical evaluation, and performance assessment for activity, selectivity, and stability.
- Present research findings at international conferences and publish results in leading scientific journals.
- Collaborate with researchers within the group and international partners, including research stays at ETH Zurich for catalyst synthesis.
