PhD Position in Quantum Computation: Determinism and Circuit Extraction Beyond Flow
Explore novel approaches to quantum circuit extraction and robust determinism in quantum computing.
Best for:Best for theoretical computer scientists, physicists, or mathematicians with a strong interest in quantum computing and formal methods, seeking to contribute to foundational advancements in quantum algorithms and error correction.
Overview
This PhD position at INRIA’s MOCQUA team in Villers-lès-Nancy focuses on advancing quantum computing by refining deterministic computation models and efficient circuit extraction techniques. The project bridges theoretical quantum computing and practical implementations, addressing challenges in measurement-based quantum computing and quantum error correction. The candidate will develop formal descriptions of flow properties, prove related computational properties, and apply these techniques to quantum error-correcting codes. The work aims to unify measurement-based quantum computing and fault-tolerant quantum computation, offering insights into both theoretical and applied quantum information science.
What you'll do
- Develop formal descriptions of flow properties in quantum computations and prove related computational properties.
- Investigate ways to weaken robust determinism while maintaining efficient circuit extraction.
- Characterize quantum computations that are close to having flow and transform them into flow-based computations.
- Generalize flow-preserving rewrite rules using the ZX-calculus for optimization tasks.
- Apply techniques to quantum error-correcting codes and fault-tolerant quantum computation on encoded data.
- Unify descriptions of measurement-based quantum computing and quantum error correction, addressing physical-logical qubit distinctions.
- Conduct literature reviews and contribute to the theoretical foundations of quantum computing.
