PhD Studentship in 3D Bioprinted Models for ALS Research
Investigate neuron-muscle interactions in ALS using 3D bioprinted human tissue models.
Best for:Best for ambitious life science or bioengineering graduates with a strong interest in neuroscience, stem cells, and translational disease modeling.
Overview
The University of Exeter invites applications for a fully-funded four-year PhD studentship as part of the GW4 BioMed3 Doctoral Landscape Programme. The project focuses on understanding the disruption of neuron-muscle interactions in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) using cutting-edge stem cell technology, 3D bioprinting, and single-cell genomics. The successful candidate will work within a highly interdisciplinary team to model key disease features and conduct high-throughput drug screening. Applicants are expected to possess a strong background in biomedical sciences or related disciplines and an enthusiasm for translational research.
What you'll do
- Develop and utilize human 3D bioprinted tissue models to study neuron-muscle interactions.
- Apply cutting-edge stem cell technology and brain cell models to investigate disease mechanisms in ALS.
- Perform high-resolution single-cell genomic and transcriptomic analyses on experimental models.
- Design and execute drug screening assays to identify novel therapeutic candidates for ALS.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary research teams across the GW4 BioMed3 partnership.
- Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and progress reports.
