PhD Student in Medicinal Chemistry / Chemical Biology
Join the Enzyme Sensors and Chemical Probes group to develop innovative inhibitors and fluorescent sensors for metalloenzymes.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in medicinal chemistry or chemical biology and an interest in interdisciplinary drug discovery.
Overview
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking a motivated PhD student to join the Enzyme Sensors and Chemical Probes research group. This position is part of the ERC-funded CHEMTUBIO project, which focuses on dissecting post-translational modifications across the microtubule network. The successful candidate will develop small molecule and peptide-based inhibitors, conduct enzyme assays, and perform live-cell imaging to reveal disease mechanisms. The role offers a stimulating, interdisciplinary environment with comprehensive training and professional development support.
What you'll do
- Design and synthesize small molecule and peptide-based inhibitors of metalloenzymes using in-solution and solid-phase chemistry.
- Develop and execute in vitro enzyme assays using purified recombinant proteins.
- Perform live-cell imaging to study the spatiotemporal regulation of microtubule post-translational modifications.
- Participate in doctoral training, including scientific seminars and transversal skills courses.
- Disseminate research findings through international conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
