Master of Science in Biomechanical Engineering (BiME)
Interdisciplinary master’s programme blending mechanical engineering, medicine, biology, and sports science for biomedical product innovation.
Best for:Best for engineering graduates with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering, biology, or related fields who seek to specialise in biomedical product development and interdisciplinary healthcare innovation.
Overview
The Master of Science in Biomechanical Engineering (BiME) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg prepares graduates for careers at the intersection of engineering, medicine, and biology. This full-time, four-semester programme focuses on designing and developing biomedical products using mechanical principles, addressing challenges in endoprosthetics and exoprosthetics. Students gain expertise in materials science, mechanical engineering, human medicine, and medical device regulation through a mix of mandatory modules, specialisation tracks, and interdisciplinary projects. The curriculum emphasises lifelong learning, enabling graduates to adapt to evolving technological and medical demands in fields like regenerative medicine and senior mobility.
What you'll do
- Develop and analyse biomedical products using mechanical engineering principles, focusing on endoprosthetics and exoprosthetics.
- Conduct interdisciplinary research combining mechanical engineering, biology, and medicine to address real-world healthcare challenges.
- Complete a mandatory interdisciplinary project integrating knowledge from multiple disciplines, typically in the third semester.
- Write and defend a Master’s thesis demonstrating independent research and problem-solving skills in a specialised biomedical engineering topic.
- Participate in elective modules to tailor your studies to specific career interests or industry needs.
- Engage in coursework covering materials science, mechanical engineering, human medicine, and medical device regulation.
