PhD: Advanced Characterization of Defects for Infrared Imaging
Investigate structural defects in cooled infrared detectors using advanced nanoscale characterization techniques.
Best for:Best for materials science or physics graduates with an interest in nanoscale structural analysis and semiconductor fabrication.
Overview
This doctoral position at Université Grenoble Alpes focuses on the advanced characterization of defects in cooled infrared detectors generated during manufacturing processes. Operating within the CEA-LETI-MINATEC Infrared Laboratory, the successful candidate will use cutting-edge techniques such as Laue microdiffraction and FIB-SEM nanotomography. The project aims to understand, control, and link the origin of these defects to improve the reliability of next-generation infrared sensors. The doctoral student will actively participate in sample development in clean rooms and collaborate with electro-optical characterization teams.
What you'll do
- Fabricate and develop sample structures within the LETI clean room environment
- Perform advanced structural characterization using Laue microdiffraction and FIB-SEM nanotomography
- Analyze and correlate defect types and origins with specific manufacturing processes
- Quantify the impact of structural defects on sensor performance and reliability
- Collaborate with the Cooled Infrared Imaging Laboratory on electro-optical characterization at cryogenic temperatures
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present at international conferences
