Master of Science in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
Interdisciplinary MSc programme blending computer science, electronics, and embedded systems for cutting-edge innovation in Erlangen.
Best for:Best for students with a strong background in engineering mathematics, signals, and systems who are passionate about embedded systems, digital communication, and interdisciplinary tech innovation.
Overview
The Master of Science in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg is a four-semester programme designed for students seeking expertise in the intersection of computer science and electronics. Located in a region renowned for its collaboration between academia, industry, and research institutes—including Fraunhofer Institutes and global companies—this programme focuses on embedded systems, digital communication, and networked technologies. Students engage in hands-on research projects, such as the federally funded *Communicating Cars* initiative, while benefiting from a curriculum that combines mandatory modules in embedded systems, networks, and media processing with elective courses across engineering and computer science disciplines. The programme emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing graduates for careers in tech-driven industries and research.
What you'll do
- Complete mandatory modules in embedded systems, networks, and digital communication to build foundational expertise.
- Choose elective modules from electrical engineering, computer science, or broader engineering/science disciplines to tailor your specialization.
- Participate in a lab course to gain hands-on experience with embedded systems and communication technologies.
- Conduct a research project aligned with current faculty initiatives, such as the *Communicating Cars* project.
- Write and present a master’s thesis on a topic of your choice, supervised by faculty members.
- Engage in an optional Erasmus+ or GE4 study abroad programme to collaborate with international partners.
- Develop intercultural skills through integrated training and participate in international research collaborations.
