Doctoral Researcher in Electron Beam Writing for High-Power Laser Pulse Compressors
Join the TRADES MSCA Doctoral Network to develop advanced electron beam lithography for nanoimprint lithography masters in photonics.
Best for:Best for recent graduates with a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, or Mathematics, passionate about optics and nanofabrication, and eager to engage in international research collaborations.
Overview
This PhD position at the University of Eastern Finland offers a fully funded opportunity within the **TRADES Doctoral Network**, an EU-funded initiative training researchers in advanced photonics. The successful candidate will specialise in electron beam lithography to fabricate master templates for nanoimprint lithography (NIL), critical for high-power laser pulse compressors. Based in Joensuu, the role involves cutting-edge research, international collaboration, and participation in a structured training programme covering workshops, secondments, and interdisciplinary skills. The position is ideal for applicants with a strong background in optics, photonics, or related engineering disciplines, seeking to contribute to next-generation laser technologies while benefiting from a competitive salary and mobility support under the MSCA scheme.
What you'll do
- Develop and optimise electron beam lithography processes for fabricating master templates used in nanoimprint lithography (NIL).
- Design and implement patterning strategies for NIL masters, ensuring uniformity in linewidth and periodicity to meet stringent tolerances.
- Fabricate and test master templates for NIL processes, collaborating with partners to assess performance in high-power laser applications.
- Conduct research for a doctoral dissertation within the structured TRADES training programme, including workshops, secondments, and interdisciplinary courses.
- Document fabrication processes and deliver high-quality masters to collaborators for further characterisation and testing.
- Participate in international research activities, including secondments at academic and industrial partner organisations.
