PhD Position in Cellular and Synaptic Neuroscience
Join a cutting-edge research group to explore synaptic plasticity and intracellular Ca²⁺ signalling mechanisms in neuronal communication.
Best for:Best for motivated candidates with a master’s in neuroscience, physiology, or related fields, eager to pursue independent research in synaptic plasticity and intracellular signalling.
Overview
This PhD position at the University of Barcelona offers an opportunity to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying synaptic adaptation to neuronal activity. The research group ‘Membrane Trafficking & Ion Homeostasis in Neuronal Communication’ focuses on membrane trafficking, ion homeostasis, and intracellular Ca²⁺ signalling, with applications to understanding neurological disorders. The successful candidate will engage in primary neuronal cultures, mouse models, advanced fluorescence imaging, genetically encoded biosensors, and electrophysiology. The project aims to bridge molecular mechanisms with neuronal circuit function, fostering scientific independence and career development in neuroscience research.
What you'll do
- Conduct research on cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating synaptic adaptation to neuronal activity.
- Develop and execute experiments using primary neuronal cultures, mouse models, and advanced fluorescence imaging techniques.
- Design and interpret experiments, contributing to the group’s multidisciplinary research environment.
- Apply for competitive predoctoral fellowships to support research activities.
- Progressively develop scientific independence and contribute to the design of future research projects.
- Collaborate with the research group to publish findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences.
