PhD Position in Membrane Biophysics and Molecular Dynamics Simulations
Explore mitochondrial proton transport mechanisms through cutting-edge computational and experimental biophysics.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in biophysics, biochemistry, or molecular biology with a passion for membrane biophysics and computational simulations.
Overview
This PhD position at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna focuses on unraveling the molecular mechanisms of mitochondrial ATP/ADP carrier (ANT)-mediated proton transport. The project integrates experimental and computational approaches to investigate how ANT influences cellular energy production, metabolism, aging, and disease. The successful candidate will contribute to developing therapeutic strategies for metabolic and age-related disorders while working within the FWF-funded project ‘Molecular mechanism of ANT-mediated proton transport.’ The role is ideal for master’s graduates in (bio)physics, (bio)chemistry, biological engineering, or molecular biology with an interest in membrane biophysics and molecular dynamics simulations.
What you'll do
- Conduct molecular dynamics simulations to study the molecular mechanisms of ANT-mediated proton transport.
- Develop and validate computational models to investigate mitochondrial uncoupling and its implications for metabolism and disease.
- Perform experimental work to complement computational findings, focusing on mitochondrial protein structure/function.
- Collaborate with team members to integrate experimental and computational data for a holistic understanding of proton transport.
- Present research findings at conferences and publish results in high-impact scientific journals.
- Contribute to the development of novel therapeutic strategies targeting metabolic and age-related disorders.
