Research Fellow in CAR-T Analytics
Develop novel in vivo CAR-T cell therapies for autoimmune diseases using cutting-edge lentiviral vector technologies.
Best for:Best for molecular biologists and gene therapy researchers with hands-on expertise in lentiviral vector engineering and CAR potency assays.
Overview
UCL is seeking a dedicated Research Fellow to join the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science on a Versus Arthritis Translational Award. Working alongside Professor John Counsell, the successful candidate will drive in vivo preclinical research focused on developing targeted CAR-T cell therapies for lupus and inflammatory arthritis. Responsibilities include administering T cell-targeted vectors intravenously to humanised mouse models to evaluate generation efficiency, persistence, and target cell elimination. Applicants are expected to hold a relevant PhD and bring robust hands-on expertise in molecular biology, vector engineering, and immunological assays.
What you'll do
- Lead the in vivo preclinical work package administering T cell-targeted vectors intravenously to humanised mouse models.
- Develop and evaluate in vivo CAR-T cell therapies for lupus and inflammatory arthritis using proprietary UCL lentiviral technologies.
- Compare targeting envelopes and vector backbones for CAR-T generation efficiency, persistence, and biodistribution.
- Assess CD19+ target cell elimination and perform comprehensive CAR potency assays.
- Collaborate across cross-disciplinary teams involving clinicians, engineers, and researchers.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in molecular biology, bioengineering, gene therapy or a closely related discipline (awarded, or submitted/near completion)
Language: English
Instruction: English
- Hands-on experience of lentiviral vector engineering, production, purification, and titration
- Experience of vector retargeting, including engineering of envelope glycoproteins and pseudotyping
- Experience of CAR potency assays such as antigen-specific cytotoxicity, killing assays, and cytokine release
