Postdoctoral Researcher in Environmental Microbial Ecology
Investigate electroactive microorganisms and iron minerals in anoxic sediments at Aarhus University.
Best for:Best for researchers with a PhD in microbiology, microbial ecology, or related fields and experience in advanced microscopy or molecular techniques.
Overview
Aarhus University invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in environmental microbial ecology within the Department of Biology. Funded by the Villum Foundation, the project focuses on characterizing the phylogenetic identity and ecophysiology of microorganisms associated with electrically conductive iron minerals in anoxic sediments. The successful candidate will employ advanced methods such as fluorescence in situ hybridization, omics, and stable isotope incubations to explore extracellular electron transfer. The role also involves collaborating with international partners, supervising students, and contributing to teaching activities.
What you'll do
- Identify, visualize, and characterize bacterial and archaeal cells associated with iron minerals using microscopy and molecular methods.
- Combine fluorescence in situ hybridization, correlative imaging, DNA- and RNA-based omics, and stable isotope incubations.
- Shape methodological approaches and develop independent research ideas within the project framework.
- Collaborate with international project partners on chemical characterization and interdisciplinary analyses.
- Participate in the supervision of bachelor, master, and doctoral students alongside potential classroom teaching.
