Doctoral Candidate in Multi-scale Physics for Thrombus Dynamics
Join a Horizon Europe MSCA-funded network to develop computational models of thrombus dynamics at multiple biological and physical scales.
Best for:Best for early-career researchers with a strong background in computational modelling, biomedical engineering, or physics, eager to apply interdisciplinary methods to thrombus dynamics research.
Overview
This doctoral position is part of the Horizon Europe MSCA-funded ThromboRisk project, an interdisciplinary network combining computational modelling, artificial intelligence, experimental research, and clinical data to advance thrombosis prediction. Based at Transilvania University of Brasov, the successful candidate will investigate the fundamental physical principles governing thrombus formation, growth, and evolution across spatial and temporal scales. The project aims to integrate cellular-, thrombus-, and circulation-level physical principles into a unified multi-scale computational model, validating findings against both computational and experimental data. The role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to precision medicine by bridging computational physics and biomedical engineering.
What you'll do
- Develop and validate a unified multi-scale computational model of thrombus dynamics across cellular, thrombus, and circulation levels.
- Investigate the material and mechanical properties of blood and thrombi, including elasticity, viscosity, and viscoelasticity.
- Analyze platelet transport towards vessel walls and thrombus resistance under varying flow conditions.
- Integrate experimental and clinical data into computational models to improve thrombosis prediction accuracy.
- Contribute to the interdisciplinary ThromboRisk network by collaborating with computational modellers, experimental researchers, and clinicians.
- Present research findings at network meetings and publish results in peer-reviewed journals.
