Postdoctoral Research Associate in Semiconductor Physics and Terahertz Science
Join a leading research team at Swansea University to develop next-generation terahertz devices for ultrahigh-capacity wireless communications.
Best for:Experimental physicists or materials scientists with expertise in semiconductor device fabrication and terahertz characterization.
Overview
The Department of Physics at Swansea University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to the EPSRC-funded TERACOM programme. Working within the Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials (CISM), the successful candidate will focus on the simulation, design, and fabrication of gallium nitride-based terahertz devices. This role involves both cleanroom fabrication and the development of experimental measurement systems to test novel physical phenomena. The appointee will collaborate with partners at the Universities of Leeds and University College London while contributing to high-impact research outputs.
What you'll do
- Simulate, design, and develop novel terahertz devices using gallium nitride material systems.
- Perform device fabrication processes within the CISM cleanroom facility.
- Characterize new devices using existing experimental setups and develop new measurement systems.
- Present research findings at regular project meetings and consortium gatherings.
- Draft and publish research outcomes in high-quality, international peer-reviewed journals.
- Engage in inter-site collaborations with project partners at Leeds and UCL.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
Language: English; proficiency required for research and publication.
Instruction: English
Publications: Evidence of ability to publish in international peer-reviewed journals.
- Proven experience in semiconductor device fabrication and cleanroom techniques.
- Strong background in semiconductor physics and device characterization.
- Experience with terahertz measurement systems or high-frequency electronics.
- Ability to conduct independent research and contribute to collaborative projects.
- Must hold a PhD or have submitted a thesis for a PhD to be considered for the Research Associate grade.
- Candidates who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at the Research Assistant level.
