PhD Position in Electrochemical Catalysis for HMF to DMM Conversion
Explore innovative electrocatalytic materials for sustainable chemical synthesis in a collaborative CNRS project.
Best for:Best for chemistry graduates or engineers with expertise in electrocatalysis, material synthesis, and electrochemical analysis, seeking a collaborative PhD environment in sustainable chemical processes.
Overview
This PhD position focuses on developing electrocatalytic materials for converting hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) into 2,5-dimethylfuran (DMM) under mild conditions. The research will be conducted jointly at the Institut de Chimie des Milieux et Matériaux de Poitiers (IC2MP) and the Laboratoire de Génie Chimique (LGC) in Toulouse, France. The successful candidate will synthesize and characterize copper-based catalysts, optimize reaction conditions, and contribute to designing a high-performance electrochemical reactor. The project is part of the ANR-funded PElHyCAN initiative, emphasizing interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge electrocatalysis techniques.
What you'll do
- Conduct a comprehensive literature review on advancements in HMF electrocatalytic reduction.
- Synthesize and characterize copper-based catalytic materials using advanced techniques.
- Perform electrochemical tests in 3-electrode cells, spectroelectrochemical cells, and H-cells.
- Optimize reaction conditions to enhance material and energy yields for DMM production.
- Collaborate on designing and testing a high-performance electrochemical reactor.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data to draw scientific conclusions.
