Postdoctoral Fellow in Functional Genomics and Human Disease Mechanisms
Join the Azaiez-Booth Laboratory to investigate the molecular and cellular consequences of disease-associated genomic variation.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in experimental genetics or molecular biology interested in human disease mechanisms.
Overview
The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University School of Medicine invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Azaiez-Booth Laboratory. The research focuses on translating human genetic discoveries into experimentally testable models to understand the mechanisms of human disease. The successful candidate will lead mechanistic studies on genes and regulatory loci, including long noncoding RNAs and structural variants. This role offers a balance between deep mechanistic investigation and focused functional studies, with opportunities for mentorship and career development in an academic environment.
What you'll do
- Lead mechanistic studies investigating genes and regulatory loci implicated in human genomic analyses.
- Develop and utilize cellular models to study candidate disease mechanisms.
- Perform CRISPR/Cas-mediated genetic perturbation and genome engineering.
- Conduct gene-expression, regulatory, and transcriptomic studies.
- Integrate molecular and cellular findings with human genetic and phenotypic data.
- Design and execute in vivo studies using mouse models alongside molecular assays.
- Prepare manuscripts, present research findings, and contribute to grant writing.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in genetics, molecular biology, developmental biology, cell biology, genomics, neuroscience, or biomedical sciences.
Language: English (professional proficiency).
Instruction: English
- Experience in functional genetics or functional genomics.
- Proficiency in mammalian cell culture techniques.
- Expertise in molecular cloning and biochemical assays.
- Ability to independently design experiments and troubleshoot complex systems.
