Doctoral Student in Automation of Continuous Experimentation Processes
Develop AI-driven methods to automate continuous experimentation in software engineering for resource-constrained companies.
Best for:Best for software engineering researchers with a master’s degree, strong quantitative skills, and interest in AI-driven automation and empirical methods.
Overview
This doctoral position at Masaryk University’s Faculty of Informatics in Brno, Czech Republic, focuses on advancing **autonomous continuous experimentation (ACE)** in software engineering. The project aims to reduce barriers for small companies and startups by automating hypothesis formulation and product variant generation using AI, process mining, and large language models. The successful candidate will conduct both quantitative and qualitative research, collaborate with international partners, and contribute to the broader field of empirical software engineering. The position is part of the Lab of Software Architectures and Information Systems (LaSArIS) and includes a mandatory research internship abroad. Funding is provided through a university scholarship for a standard 4-year PhD programme.
What you'll do
- Conduct original research on automating continuous experimentation processes in software engineering, focusing on AI-driven methods for hypothesis formulation and product variant generation.
- Develop and evaluate AI-based tools and models to enable autonomous continuous experimentation (ACE) for small companies and startups.
- Apply quantitative and qualitative research methods, including process mining, feature localization, and design science research.
- Collaborate with international research partners (e.g., Aalto University, Lund University) during a mandatory 1–3 month research internship abroad.
- Publish research findings in top-tier conferences and journals within the software engineering and AI communities.
- Participate in teaching and mentoring activities as part of the doctoral programme.
- Present research progress at internal and external seminars and conferences.
