Master of Science in Engineering Physics
Interdisciplinary master’s programme bridging physics and engineering with specialisations in biomedical physics, acoustics, laser & optics, and renewable energy.
Best for:Best for students with a bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or a related field who seek a hands-on, research-oriented master’s programme with specialisations in biomedical applications, acoustics, photonics, or renewable energy.
Overview
The Master of Science in Engineering Physics at the University of Oldenburg offers a unique interdisciplinary programme that merges core physics with engineering disciplines. Students can specialise in areas such as biomedical physics (including medical radiation, imaging, and diagnostics), acoustics (covering sound, vibrations, and signal processing), laser & optics (focusing on photonics and optical technologies), or renewable energy (exploring wind, solar, and energy systems). The programme combines structured courses in advanced physics, theoretical foundations, and management with flexible electives and long-term laboratory projects. Close collaboration with industry partners, such as the Medical Centre for Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine, ensures practical relevance and research exposure. The curriculum encourages independent work and personal initiative, preparing graduates for careers at the intersection of physics and engineering innovation.
What you'll do
- Complete a structured curriculum covering advanced physics, theoretical foundations, and management principles.
- Engage in long-term laboratory projects to develop independent research and problem-solving skills.
- Specialize in one of four areas: Biomedical Physics, Acoustics, Laser & Optics, or Renewable Energy.
- Participate in interdisciplinary projects that bridge physics and engineering disciplines.
- Collaborate with industry partners, including the Medical Centre for Radiotherapy and Nuclear Medicine, for practical exposure.
- Conduct a master’s thesis under faculty supervision, integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on research.
- Develop skills in data acquisition, analysis, and application of advanced technologies in specialized fields.
