Overview

This PhD position within the PRISM programme at École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris (PSL) focuses on advancing recyclable polymer technologies. The project, titled WISELY, aims to design new mechanically reversible chemical groups to enhance the recyclability and processability of thermoplastics, thermosets, and polymer blends. The successful candidate will synthesize and characterize novel functional groups, integrate them into various polymer matrices, and study their physicochemical, thermomechanical, and tensile properties. The research will involve collaboration with Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) for rheological investigations and includes mobility opportunities, interdisciplinary training, and potential industrial applications.

What you'll do

  • Synthesize and characterize new functional groups incorporating mechanically reversible chemical bonds using advanced techniques like 1H, 13C, 15N NMR, mass spectrometry, and 2D NMR.
  • Incorporate these functional groups into various polymer matrices (thermoplastics, thermosets, polyolefins, polyesters, polyurethanes, etc.) during synthesis or through reactive processing.
  • Investigate the physicochemical, thermomechanical, and tensile properties of the new materials using techniques such as TGA, DSC, SEC, DMA, TEM, SEM, and tensile testing.
  • Conduct research secondments at Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain) to study the linear and non-linear rheology of the materials.
  • Collaborate with industrial partners to explore potential applications in construction, transportation, and adhesives.
  • Publish findings in leading scientific journals, present at national and international conferences, and potentially file patent applications.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary training programs focused on sustainability, innovation, entrepreneurship, and career development.
