PhD Position – Concrete for high-temperature thermal energy storage
Research the development and stability of concrete-based materials for high-temperature thermal energy storage applications.
Best for:Best for candidates with a background in Civil Engineering or Materials Science interested in thermal energy storage and material characterization.
Overview
The GREiA research group at the University of Lleida is inviting applications for a PhD position focused on advancing concrete as a sensible heat storage material. The successful candidate will design and optimize cementitious formulations capable of maintaining mechanical and thermal integrity under high-temperature conditions and repeated thermal cycling. This role involves experimental characterization of material properties and assessing compatibility with heat transfer fluids. The researcher will be enrolled in a doctoral programme at the University of Lleida and will work under the supervision of Prof. Luisa F. Cabeza. The position offers a four-year fixed-term contract within an internationally recognized research environment.
What you'll do
- Design and optimize novel concrete and cementitious formulations for thermal energy storage.
- Perform experimental characterization of thermal, physical, and mechanical material properties.
- Assess material durability and investigate degradation mechanisms under high-temperature operation.
- Evaluate the compatibility of developed materials with various heat transfer fluids.
- Analyze the suitability of concrete-based materials for industrial thermal energy storage applications.
- Participate in mandatory doctoral training activities and workshops at the University of Lleida.
