PhD Position: Interface Stabilization and Degradation Mitigation in All-Solid-State Microbatteries
Advance the reliability of all-solid-state microbatteries through interface engineering and degradation analysis.
Best for:Best for materials scientists or electrochemists with experience in thin-film deposition and electrochemical characterization.
Overview
This PhD project at Université Paris-Saclay focuses on improving the performance and longevity of all-solid-state microbatteries for applications in IoT, wearable electronics, and medical implants. The research aims to address critical bottlenecks at electrode/electrolyte interfaces by optimizing ultrathin films and investigating fundamental degradation mechanisms. The successful candidate will utilize advanced fabrication and characterization techniques to develop robust microbattery stacks. The project seeks to achieve high-cycle stability and provide a comprehensive framework for interface engineering.
What you'll do
- Optimize ultrathin films using Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) for interface engineering in LiCoO2/LiPON/Li stacks.
- Conduct fundamental investigations into the mechanisms driving interface degradation.
- Fabricate and characterize partial and complete battery stacks using electrochemical and structural techniques.
- Explore the use of alloying metals to enhance lithium-metal interface stability.
- Develop a comprehensive framework describing degradation mechanisms and buffer layer effects.
- Target the development of a microbattery stack capable of exceeding 1,000 cycles with minimal resistance increase.
