Doctoral student in acoustic source characterisation
Join KTH to research advanced acoustic source characterisation and machine learning for electrified vehicles.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in engineering mechanics or applied physics with a strong background in acoustics, signal processing, and machine learning.
Overview
KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position focusing on acoustic source characterisation of electric vehicle components. Part of the FFI Zero Emissions programme, the research is conducted in close partnership with Volvo Technology AB within the Marcus Wallenberg Laboratory for Sound and Vibration Research. The project involves developing equivalent source modelling, inverse acoustics, microphone-array optimisation, and physics-informed machine learning to address dominant noise sources in electrified transport. The successful candidate will pursue a third-cycle degree in Vehicle, Maritime and Aerospace Engineering while contributing to energy-efficient vehicle simulation methods.
What you'll do
- Develop robust methods for identifying and characterising acoustic sources in electric vehicle components
- Perform equivalent source modelling and inverse acoustics for partially coherent source fields
- Design optimal microphone-array placements for noise source identification
- Implement physics-informed and data-driven machine learning algorithms for acoustic analysis
- Integrate developed methods with virtual pass-by simulation tools for efficient vehicle development
- Collaborate closely with industrial partners at Volvo Technology AB
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree or equivalent second-cycle degree of at least 240 higher education credits with 60 second-cycle credits
Degree offered: PhD
Language: English equivalent to English B/6
Instruction: English
- Background in Engineering Mechanics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Vehicle Engineering, or a related discipline
