Best for:Best for researchers with a dual background in linguistics and software development, particularly those experienced in Python and morphological analysis.
Overview
The University of Surrey is seeking a Research Fellow to join the Surrey Morphology Group for a project focused on scaling predictability in morphological paradigms. The successful candidate will lead a work package dedicated to developing new models and software tools to measure predictability in complex inflectional systems. This role involves extending existing software, such as Qumin, and applying computational methods to address linguistic research questions. The position offers a collaborative environment with opportunities to contribute to comparative studies in linguistic typology and shape the project's research agenda.
What you'll do
- Develop and extend software tools for analyzing morphological lexical data and evaluating inflectional predictability.
- Lead the project work package focused on creating new models for measuring morphological predictability.
- Apply computational methods to study predictability in complex inflectional systems across various languages.
- Collaborate with the research team on the dissemination of findings through academic papers and presentations.
- Take initiative in formulating and refining the research agenda for the project.
- Contribute to large-scale comparative studies in linguistic typology.
