PhD Position in Quantitative Matrix Microscopy: Non-Invasive Imaging of Oocytes and Embryos
Develop advanced 3D non-invasive imaging techniques to improve the assessment of oocyte and embryo quality for reproductive medicine.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in optics, photonics, or biomedical imaging interested in applying advanced physics to reproductive medicine.
Overview
This PhD project, hosted at the Institut Langevin, focuses on advancing quantitative optical imaging for reproductive biology. The research aims to move beyond subjective 2D morphological observation by utilizing high-speed matrix reflection imaging to provide objective, 3D, and non-invasive assessments of oocytes and embryos. The candidate will work on developing dynamic contrast tools, measuring viscoelastic properties, and mapping refractive indices to better predict developmental potential. This position is part of the ANR QUANTIFY project and involves collaboration with the deeptech company OWLO.
What you'll do
- Develop and implement 3D real-time, label-free imaging techniques based on optical reflection matrix measurements.
- Design and apply algorithms for aberration correction and multiple scattering analysis to enhance image quality.
- Investigate dynamic contrast mechanisms to track organelle and lipid movement within oocytes.
- Measure the viscoelastic properties of embryos by monitoring elastic wave propagation.
- Develop methods to map the refractive index distribution within biological samples.
- Collaborate with the project team and industry partner OWLO to translate research findings into quantitative biomarkers.
- Document research findings and contribute to scientific publications and conference presentations.
