Post-Doctoral Associate in Mathematics - Inverse Problems
Join NYU Abu Dhabi to research inverse problems for nonlinear PDEs in life sciences and medical imaging.
Best for:Best for applied mathematicians and computational scientists with a strong background in nonlinear PDEs, inverse problems, and scientific machine learning.
Overview
The Mathematics Program in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate to collaborate with Professor Elena Beretta. The research centers on inverse problems for nonlinear partial differential equations related to life sciences, tumor evolution, cardiac electrophysiology, and medical imaging. The appointed candidate will explore analytical foundations, such as well-posedness and stability, alongside computational methods including scientific machine learning and regularization. Applicants are expected to engage actively in departmental seminars, produce high-impact publications, and work effectively in a multidisciplinary setting.
What you'll do
- Investigate analytical foundations of inverse problems, including well-posedness, identifiability, uniqueness, and stability estimates.
- Design and implement efficient computational reconstruction algorithms such as iterative regularization and PDE-constrained optimization.
- Develop structure-preserving scientific machine-learning frameworks, including physics-informed neural networks and neural operators.
- Collaborate with faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and students across mathematics, data science, and biomedical applications.
- Contribute to research publications, preprints, and presentations at seminars, workshops, and scientific conferences.
