Overview

The Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics (IBED) at the University of Amsterdam is seeking a motivated PhD candidate to study the effects of agrochemicals on microbial and viral communities in agricultural drainage ditch sediments. This research aims to bridge the gap between aquatic ecotoxicology and microbial ecology by examining how pesticide mixtures and nutrient inputs alter carbon cycling and greenhouse gas emissions. The successful candidate will employ state-of-the-art analytical techniques and data processing to evaluate these impacts across various spatial and temporal scales. You will work within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to both fundamental scientific understanding and practical environmental management.
