PhD Fellowship in Novel Scintillator Materials for High-Energy Physics
Join an international PhD programme to develop next-generation scintillator materials for high-energy physics and medical imaging.
Best for:Best for physics or engineering graduates with a strong interest in experimental high-energy physics and material science.
Overview
The PICTUS PhD Fellowship Programme at the Czech Technical University in Prague offers a 48-month employment contract for doctoral candidates. The research focuses on the development of advanced plastic scintillator detectors, specifically investigating innovative matrices doped with nanocrystals and quantum dots. Students will conduct experimental work, including the design of test benches and the manufacturing of scintillators, in collaboration with CERN and the nuclear chemistry department. Applicants are expected to prepare a research proposal based on the provided list of topics and must also apply to the university's PhD programme in Nuclear Engineering.
What you'll do
- Conduct experimental research on novel plastic scintillator materials.
- Design and operate dedicated test benches using NIM/VME electronics.
- Manufacture and characterize plastic scintillators using spectrofluorometry.
- Collaborate with research groups at CERN and the CTU nuclear chemistry department.
- Develop research proposals and contribute to the advancement of detector technologies.
- Participate in secondments at NUVIA a.s. and CERN.
