PhD Position in Coupled Processes in Fractured Rock
Explore geochemical and geomechanical interactions in fractured rock for low-carbon geo-energy technologies.
Best for:Best for master’s graduates in geosciences, civil engineering, or related fields with a strong interest in geochemical and geomechanical processes for sustainable energy technologies.
Overview
This four-year PhD position at IMEDEA-CSIC-UIB focuses on advancing the understanding of coupled processes in fractured rock, particularly geochemical and geomechanical interactions induced by fluid injection or extraction. The research will contribute to low-carbon geo-energy technologies, including geothermal energy, geologic carbon storage, and subsurface energy storage. The successful candidate will join the NetDyn project, supervised by Prof. Victor Vilarrasa and Dr. Iman Rahimzadeh Kivi, and conduct research in a collaborative environment at a prestigious research institute in Esporles, Spain. The position offers a gross annual salary of approximately €22,000 and is ideal for those passionate about sustainable energy solutions and subsurface dynamics.
What you'll do
- Conduct research on geochemical and geomechanical interactions in fractured rock induced by fluid injection or extraction.
- Develop computational or experimental models to simulate coupled processes relevant to low-carbon geo-energy technologies.
- Collaborate with the NetDyn project team to advance understanding of subsurface dynamics for sustainable energy solutions.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences.
- Participate in a collaborative research environment at IMEDEA-CSIC-UIB, contributing to interdisciplinary discussions and workshops.
