PhD Renewable Chemicals (Organic Synthesis/Catalysis/Green Chemistry)
Develop novel catalytic methodologies for converting renewable feedstocks into high-value chemical building blocks.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in chemistry with a strong background in organic synthesis, catalysis, and sustainable chemical processes.
Overview
The University of Antwerp invites applications for a PhD position focusing on green chemistry and organic synthesis within the Maes group of the Department of Chemistry. The successful candidate will investigate catalytic processes to transform renewable feedstocks into building blocks for the commodity and specialty chemicals industries. Work will involve developing synthetic methods initially in batch systems and subsequently transferring them to continuous flow production systems. Applicants will receive a PhD scholarship with social security coverage and will be appointed for an initial term of one year with potential for extension upon successful review.
What you'll do
- Design and execute novel synthetic methodologies to transform renewable feedstocks into industrial chemical building blocks
- Develop and optimize homogeneous or heterogeneous catalytic processes in batch reaction setups
- Translate established batch synthetic methods into continuous production flow systems
- Characterize reaction intermediates and final products using standard analytical techniques
- Collaborate with research partners within the CASCH Centre of Excellence and the InSusChem Valorization Platform
- Prepare scientific reports, present findings at academic meetings, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications
