Research Scientist II in Immunology
Advance mechanistic studies on immune cell function, tissue physiology, and cancer in the Bapat Lab at the University of Utah.
Best for:Best for immunologists with extensive hands-on experience in murine models, cellular assays, and high-dimensional genomic data analysis.
Overview
The Bapat Lab within the Department of Pathology at the University of Utah invites applications for a Research Scientist II position to investigate the fundamental roles of the immune system in tissue physiology, metabolic regulation, inflammatory disease, and cancer. The successful candidate will independently design, execute, and interpret mechanistic experiments in vivo and in vitro, focusing on T cell biology, tissue immunology, and immunometabolism. Responsibilities include managing complex mouse models, performing advanced cellular and molecular assays, analyzing high-dimensional genomic datasets, and contributing to manuscripts and grant proposals. The role offers an opportunity to make substantial scientific contributions within a collaborative research environment.
What you'll do
- Design and execute mechanistic research projects investigating immune cell function in inflammation, metabolic disease, and cancer.
- Manage and conduct in vivo studies utilizing genetically modified mouse models of tissue inflammation, obesity, and tumor growth.
- Perform advanced cellular immunology assays such as primary immune cell isolation, T cell culture, activation, and functional characterization.
- Implement molecular and genetic techniques including gene expression analyses, conditional genetic perturbations, and CRISPR-based strategies.
- Design and conduct multiparameter flow cytometry and cell sorting experiments to characterize immune cell populations across tissues.
- Generate and interpret high-dimensional genomic datasets including bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing and chromatin accessibility profiling.
- Independently analyze experimental results, formulate hypotheses, and design follow-up studies to establish biological mechanisms.
- Prepare scientific figures, research reports, manuscripts, and materials to support grant applications and collaborative projects.
- Mentor junior laboratory members and assist with the optimization of laboratory protocols and technical procedures.
- Participate in laboratory meetings and maintain rigorous standards of documentation and regulatory compliance.
