PhD Position in System Dynamics at the Department of Geography
Join the INTEGRATOR project to advance water resilience through participatory system dynamics modeling and digital intelligence.
Best for:Best for researchers with a strong background in system dynamics, computational modeling, and an interest in socio-environmental water governance.
Overview
The University of Bergen is seeking a PhD candidate to join the Department of Geography for a three-year fixed-term position within the EU-funded INTEGRATOR project. The successful applicant will focus on participatory system dynamics modeling and computer simulations to support water governance and resilience in the Ergene and Jucar river basins. The role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to develop decision-support tools, including digital twins and prompt-based simulation compilers. Candidates are expected to contribute to both participatory co-design processes and technical model integration. This position offers a collaborative research environment and requires physical presence at the Bergen campus.
What you'll do
- Conduct participatory system dynamics modeling and computer simulations for the INTEGRATOR project.
- Support stakeholder mapping and problem co-definition within the Decision Theatre approach.
- Develop and integrate site-specific digital twins for water intelligence systems.
- Contribute to the development of the HydroFellow prompt compiler for executable simulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams across European case study sites.
- Prepare and present research findings in academic publications and project reports.
- Participate in the PhD programme at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
