Research Fellow in Palaeoecology
Join the AHRC-funded ARTEMIS project at Coventry University to reconstruct Holocene human-environment dynamics in ancient Greece.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with expertise in palynology, palaeoecology, and environmental reconstruction.
Overview
Coventry University Group is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join the Research Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience (CAWR). Working on the AHRC-funded ARTEMIS project, the fellow will investigate Holocene human-environment relationships in East Attica, Greece, by integrating palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, pollen-based land-cover modelling, and archaeological data. The successful candidate will conduct fieldwork, lead laboratory analyses of sediment cores and palynological samples, collaborate with international partner universities, and publish high-impact research. This fixed-term appointment offers an opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary historical ecology within a supportive academic network.
What you'll do
- Conduct palaeoenvironmental fieldwork in East Attica, Greece, to retrieve sediment cores and perform modern vegetation and pollen sampling.
- Lead laboratory analyses including pollen, non-pollen palynomorph, and microscopic charcoal identification on modern and palaeoenvironmental samples.
- Collaborate with project partners to select and submit samples for radiocarbon dating and develop robust age-depth models.
- Contribute to relative pollen productivity estimation and quantitative land-cover modelling using the Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm and Multiple Scenario Approach.
- Integrate palaeoenvironmental findings with archaeological datasets to interpret ancient human-environment relationships.
- Disseminate research outcomes through high-quality peer-reviewed publications and presentations at academic networks.
