Doctoral Researcher in Human-in-the-Loop Autonomous Systems
Join Chalmers University to advance human-centered autonomous systems through cutting-edge research in software engineering and AI.
Best for:Best for computer science graduates with a strong background in software engineering, formal methods, or related fields, seeking to contribute to AI-driven autonomous systems with a focus on human-centered design.
Overview
Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg is seeking five doctoral students to pioneer the next generation of human-in-the-loop autonomous systems. These systems will integrate advanced software engineering, formal methods, and machine learning to enhance safety, security, and usability in healthcare, transportation, and beyond. Supervised by Associate Professor Rebekka Wohlrab, the projects focus on modeling user expectations and adaptive coordination between humans and autonomous agents. Doctoral students will conduct research, publish findings, teach, and collaborate within a dynamic, interdisciplinary environment supported by WASP, Sweden’s largest AI research program.
What you'll do
- Develop theoretical foundations, models, and tools for human-in-the-loop autonomous systems using formal methods and software engineering principles.
- Conduct rigorous empirical evaluations of research contributions, including simulations and experiments with physical robots.
- Publish research findings in top-tier academic venues and present work at conferences.
- Enroll in advanced courses within Chalmers’ Graduate School of Computer Science and Engineering.
- Teach at the undergraduate level or perform departmental duties equivalent to 20% of working hours.
- Collaborate with industry partners (e.g., Volvo Group, Ericsson) and contribute to interdisciplinary research projects.
