PhD Position in Supercritical Steam Reforming of Methanol and Dimethyl Ether
Join Forschungszentrum Jülich to investigate supercritical steam reforming for sustainable hydrogen storage systems.
Best for:Best for chemical and process engineering graduates with experience in high-pressure reactor systems and a strong interest in sustainable hydrogen technologies.
Overview
Forschungszentrum Jülich invites applications for a 3-year PhD position within the Institute for Sustainable Hydrogen Economy (IHE). The successful candidate will focus on the experimental characterisation, kinetic investigation, and reactor modelling of supercritical steam reforming of methanol and dimethyl ether. Working in the IHE-4 group, the researcher will operate high-pressure reactor pilot plants, test commercial and academic catalysts, and integrate findings into process simulations. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to the regional energy transition while pursuing a doctoral degree with comprehensive institutional support.
What you'll do
- Coordinate, commission, and operate a high-pressure reactor system for methanol and dimethyl ether steam reforming.
- Conduct experimental characterisations of steam reforming under supercritical conditions.
- Evaluate and test both commercial and academic catalysts at the laboratory scale.
- Perform kinetic investigations and develop mathematical models for supercritical steam reforming processes.
- Integrate empirical data into broader reactor and process simulation models.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at international scientific conferences.
- Assist in drafting proposals and securing third-party research funding.
- Contribute to academic teaching activities and public relations initiatives.
