Doctoral Researcher in Environmental Chemistry
Join an interdisciplinary project developing AI-powered early-warning systems for emerging contaminants in water.
Best for:Best for candidates with a background in environmental chemistry and an interest in applying AI to water quality monitoring.
Overview
The University of Luxembourg is seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join the AI4TECS project within the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine. This research initiative focuses on creating an AI-driven framework for the real-time identification and treatment of emerging contaminants in water systems. The successful candidate will work within the Environmental Cheminformatics group, collaborating closely with computer scientists to integrate non-target high-resolution mass spectrometry data with toxicity prediction models. This role involves both laboratory-based analytical work and computational data analysis to support the development of advanced environmental monitoring tools.
What you'll do
- Conduct retrospective analysis on environmental datasets to test early warning capabilities.
- Design non-target workflows for identifying emerging contaminants and transformation products in wastewater.
- Optimize analytical workflows for long-term performance assessment of wastewater pilot systems.
- Generate and validate high-quality data to train AI-powered early warning systems.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including computer scientists and engineers.
- Publish research findings in leading journals and present at scientific meetings.
- Write a doctoral dissertation in natural sciences.
Requirements
Degree required: Master's degree in environmental science, engineering, cheminformatics, or a closely related field.
Degree offered: PhD
Language: Excellent command of English; B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis.
