PhD Position in Radiation-triggered Block Copolymer Micelles
Design and characterize radiation-sensitive block copolymer micelles for targeted cancer immunotherapy.
Best for:Best for chemistry and chemical engineering graduates with strong expertise in organic and polymer synthesis.
Overview
This 4-year doctoral position is hosted by the Faculty of Applied Sciences at Delft University of Technology as part of a national consortium focused on nanoparticle-based cancer immunotherapy. The research involves designing, synthesizing, and characterizing radiation-sensitive block copolymers that form micelles for the encapsulation and release of immunotherapeutic agents. Working collaboratively within the Chemical Engineering and Radiation Science and Technology groups, the candidate will develop polymer libraries, test degradation efficiency, and conduct initial cell studies. The successful applicant will engage in rigorous academic coursework, publish scientific articles, and complete a dissertation under joint supervision.
What you'll do
- Design and synthesize radiation-sensitive block copolymers capable of self-assembling into micelles
- Develop a comprehensive library of block copolymers varying in block length, structure, and radiation-sensitive linkers
- Characterize polymer structures, purification processes, and degradation efficiency upon radiation exposure
- Evaluate the encapsulation and controlled release capabilities of immunotherapeutic cargo
- Perform preliminary in vitro cell studies to assess biocompatibility and therapeutic potential
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary researchers across the national consortium and supervisory groups
- Participate in the TU Delft Graduate School doctoral education programme and acquire transferable research skills
- Author scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals and draft the final doctoral thesis
