PhD Positions in Biophysics and Structural Biology
Explore membrane protein structure and function using cutting-edge solid-state NMR and cryo-EM techniques at a leading Berlin research institute.
Best for:Best for recent graduates in (bio)chemistry, (bio)physics, or related fields with a passion for structural biology and an interest in learning advanced techniques like solid-state NMR and cryo-EM.
Overview
The Leibniz-Institut für Molekulare Pharmakologie (FMP) in Berlin is seeking two PhD students to investigate the structure, dynamics, and function of membrane proteins and supramolecular assemblies. Led by Prof. Adam Lange, this project combines solid-state NMR and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) to advance structural biology. The successful candidates will work in a collaborative, international environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a 1.2 GHz NMR spectrometer and a Titan Krios cryo-electron microscope. This position offers a three-year fixed-term contract with opportunities to develop expertise in membrane protein production, NMR spectroscopy, and cryo-EM.
What you'll do
- Conduct research on the structure, dynamics, and function of membrane proteins using solid-state NMR and cryo-electron microscopy techniques.
- Develop and optimize protocols for membrane protein production using cell-free expression systems.
- Perform advanced NMR spectroscopy and cryo-EM experiments to analyze protein structures and interactions.
- Collaborate with team members to integrate findings from both NMR and cryo-EM approaches.
- Present research findings at internal seminars and external conferences.
- Contribute to the publication of research results in high-impact scientific journals.
