PhD Position in Polymer Chemistry for Solid-State Sodium Batteries
Join Uppsala University’s Ångström Advanced Battery Centre to develop anode-free sodium batteries using polymer electrolytes.
Best for:Best for chemistry, materials science, or physics graduates with hands-on experience in polymer materials, battery fabrication, and advanced spectroscopic techniques.
Overview
This PhD position at Uppsala University’s Department of Chemistry – Ångström Laboratory focuses on advancing polymer-based solid-state batteries, specifically anode-free sodium batteries. The project, conducted in collaboration with National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, aims to enhance energy density and sustainability in next-generation batteries. The successful candidate will engage in experimental polymer science, materials chemistry, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy, including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The role involves materials development, battery cell fabrication, and electrochemical testing, with opportunities for international research visits. Teaching responsibilities are limited to 20% of the workload.
What you'll do
- Develop and synthesize polymer electrolytes for solid-state sodium batteries.
- Fabricate and test anode-free battery cells under controlled electrochemical conditions.
- Conduct spectroscopic materials analysis, primarily using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS).
- Collaborate internationally with researchers at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, including potential research visits.
- Participate in teaching and departmental activities, limited to 20% of working time.
- Contribute to ongoing research projects focused on sustainable and high-energy-density battery technologies.
