PhD in Energy-Efficient Sensors and Computing Hardware from 2D Materials
Develop novel 2D nanomaterials and devices for energy-efficient sensing and neuromorphic computing hardware at Eindhoven University of Technology.
Best for:Best for graduate engineers with a strong background in semiconductor physics, nanotechnology, and hands-on cleanroom fabrication experience.
Overview
Eindhoven University of Technology is offering a four-year PhD position focused on investigating 2D nanomaterials as a platform for next-generation sensing and computing devices. Working within the NanoComputing Research Lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering, the candidate will develop chemical vapor deposition growth recipes and fabricate scalable device arrays. The project involves close collaboration with circuit designers to link material properties directly to hardware performance. Applicants are expected to conduct rigorous experimental research, publish findings in leading journals, and contribute to teaching activities.
What you'll do
- Develop metal-organic chemical vapour deposition growth recipes for large-area 2D materials such as MoS2 and WSe2 with controlled defect densities.
- Optimize transfer processes to integrate grown 2D materials onto target device substrates for heterogeneous integration.
- Fabricate scalable device arrays, including sensors and transistors, utilizing the university cleanroom facilities.
- Engineer metal-semiconductor and dielectric interfaces to optimize overall device performance.
- Characterize manufactured materials and devices, collaborating with circuit designers to evaluate material-to-circuit performance metrics.
- Publish research results in high-impact international journals and present work at conferences.
- Supervise and mentor Bachelor's and Master's student research projects.
