PhD Student in Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography
Investigate aerosol-cloud-climate interactions through numerical simulations and satellite data analysis.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in physics, meteorology, or oceanography with strong quantitative and numerical modeling skills.
Overview
Stockholm University's Department of Meteorology invites applications for a 4-year PhD position focusing on aerosol-cloud-climate interactions. The successful candidate will examine how aerosol pollution modifies liquid clouds by testing novel theoretical frameworks and evaluating Earth's radiation budget over the satellite era. Research activities will primarily involve numerical modeling, theoretical testing, and extensive satellite data analysis. Candidates are expected to work independently as well as collaboratively within an international research environment.
What you'll do
- Conduct independent research on aerosol-cloud-climate interactions and liquid cloud modifications
- Test and evaluate new theoretical frameworks predicting aerosol impacts on convective cloud updrafts
- Analyze long-term satellite observations to study trends in Earth's radiation budget
- Perform numerical simulations and process complex meteorological or climatological datasets
- Contribute to departmental education, research, and administration up to a maximum of 20% of time
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals and present results at international conferences
