PhD Student in Plant Genomics and Heterochromatin Evolution
Explore the role of transposable elements in plant heterochromatin using advanced genomics and molecular biology techniques.
Best for:Best for candidates with a strong background in genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology, interested in plant genetics and advanced sequencing techniques.
Overview
This PhD position at CRAG, an independent research institution in Spain, focuses on investigating the role of transposable elements in the evolution and function of heterochromatin in plants. The successful candidate will conduct bioinformatics analyses of long-read sequences, including genome assembly, methylation pattern deduction, and structural variant analysis, alongside molecular biology experiments such as Hi-C and ChIP-Seq. The project leverages the model organism *Physcomitrella* and integrates cutting-edge genomic technologies. The position is part of a funded research project and offers a full-time, temporary contract at the UAB Campus in Bellaterra, Spain.
What you'll do
- Conduct bioinformatics analysis of long-read sequencing data, including genome assembly and structural variant analysis.
- Investigate methylation patterns and their role in heterochromatin function using computational tools.
- Perform molecular biology experiments such as Hi-C and ChIP-Seq to study chromatin organization.
- Characterize the role of transposable elements in plant heterochromatin evolution using *Physcomitrella* as a model organism.
- Collaborate with the Rosaceae genetics and genomics group to integrate findings into broader research projects.
- Present research findings at internal and external scientific meetings.
- Contribute to the publication of research results in peer-reviewed journals.
