Postdoctoral Position in Molecular Biology and Genetics
Join Max Perutz Labs to investigate the assembly and regulation of small RNA amplification machinery in C. elegans.
Best for:Best for postdoctoral researchers with expertise in protein biochemistry, biophysics, and molecular biology seeking to investigate small RNA pathways using C. elegans models.
Overview
The Max Perutz Labs, a joint research institute of the University of Vienna and the Medical University of Vienna, is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Falk Lab. The successful candidate will lead a research project combining biochemistry, biophysics, and C. elegans genetics to understand how small RNAs are amplified to regulate gene expression and protect the genome. Responsibilities include driving experimental work, supervising students, presenting results at conferences, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals. This is a fixed-term position for three years with the possibility of an extension.
What you'll do
- Drive an independent research project investigating the assembly and regulation of the small RNA amplification machinery, integrating in vitro biochemistry with in vivo C. elegans genetics.
- Consult regularly with the supervisor to prioritize experimental tasks and project direction.
- Participate actively in research group meetings, department workshops, and campus-wide scientific activities.
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and publish outcomes in peer-reviewed academic journals.
- Contribute to the education, mentoring, and supervision of Bachelor, Master, and PhD students.
- Maintain meticulous, reproducible laboratory records and assist with grant proposal writing where appropriate.
Requirements
Degree required: PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology, or a related field
Language: English; good written and spoken proficiency
Instruction: English
Publications: Contribution to manuscripts and presentation of research results expected.
- Extensive hands-on experience with recombinant protein production and purification
- Demonstrated proficiency in biophysical methods to evaluate oligomeric state, ligand binding, and polydispersity (e.g., SEC-MALS, mass photometry, ITC, MST, or fluorescence anisotropy)
- Strong background in establishing and optimizing enzymatic activity assays
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an international research team
