Research Fellow in DNA Replication and Repair
Investigate DNA replication fork transitions and DNA damage repair mechanisms in the Morris lab at the University of Birmingham.
Best for:Best for molecular biologists and researchers with strong expertise in mammalian DNA repair, DNA replication, and advanced microscopy techniques.
Overview
The Department of Cancer and Genomic Sciences at the University of Birmingham invites applications for a Research Fellow position within the Morris lab, supported by a Wellcome Trust Discovery Award. The successful candidate will conduct fundamental research into how DNA replication fork transitions are regulated, balanced, and related to DNA topology using advanced cell biological, microscopy, and biophysical approaches. Responsibilities include designing methodologies, analyzing data, disseminating findings, and supporting junior team members in a vibrant and collaborative research environment. Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline and possess practical experience in mammalian DNA replication or repair techniques.
What you'll do
- Develop and execute research objectives, proposals, and funding applications within the designated project scope.
- Design and apply innovative or adapted research methodologies involving cell biology, advanced microscopy, or biophysical approaches.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret complex research data to inform subsequent experimental steps based on current literature.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of laboratory work and research records.
- Disseminate research outcomes through peer-reviewed publications, scientific presentations, and seminars.
- Support and supervise students and junior laboratory members.
- Contribute to the development of new experimental techniques, models, and methods.
- Collaborate with colleagues on wider departmental research initiatives and administrative tasks.
