Overview

This PhD position at the University Medical Center Utrecht focuses on advancing portable flow cytometry to analyze multidimensional characteristics of inhaled particles like microplastics and pollen. The candidate will pioneer analytical methods to distinguish particles based on their properties, initially validated using blood cells, before translating the technology to environmental samples. The project integrates flow cytometry, data analysis, cell/particle characterization, and technology development, aiming to create a portable system for real-time environmental monitoring. The work bridges immunology, biophysics, and analytical sciences, offering a unique interdisciplinary research opportunity.
