Doctoral Researcher in Learning AI Agents
Investigate human-agent interaction, calibrated initiative, and behavioural drift detection for AI systems at scale.
Best for:Best for computer science graduates with a strong programming background and an interest in human-AI interaction or reinforcement learning.
Overview
The University of Luxembourg is offering a fully-funded PhD position within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) and the UBIX Research Group. The doctoral researcher will collaborate with a major energy utility on an industrial research project examining how organizations maintain meaningful control over continuous-learning AI agents. The work involves designing user-focused interaction models for agent initiative and building detection mechanisms for behavioural drift. Candidates are expected to combine system building with empirical user evaluations and disseminate their findings through academic publications.
What you'll do
- Conduct independent academic research in learning AI agents and human-AI interaction
- Design and execute empirical studies involving real users within an industrial setting
- Develop, implement, and evaluate proof-of-concept software tools, open-sourcing them where feasible
- Collaborate closely with academic researchers and industrial project partners
- Disseminate scientific outcomes through peer-reviewed publications and project presentations
