Overview

This postdoctoral position at the University of York’s Mackinder Lab focuses on unravelling the evolutionary origins and functional mechanisms of pyrenoids in algae. Pyrenoids are key organelles that concentrate CO₂ for photosynthesis, offering potential to boost crop yields. The role involves collaborative research across multiple institutions, integrating evolutionary biology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics to reconstruct pyrenoid evolution in green algae. The successful candidate will contribute to a BBSRC strategic project, publishing findings and developing grant proposals. The lab’s prior work has been published in high-impact journals like *Nature Plants* and *Cell*, establishing a strong foundation for impactful research.
