Predoctoral Position in Biochemistry, Metabolism, and Cell Biology
Explore the metabolic and cellular functions of Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase 1C (CPT1C) in neuroscience and cancer research.
Best for:Best for candidates with a Master’s in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields, passionate about metabolism, cancer biology, and neuroscience, with hands-on experience in molecular techniques and cell culture.
Overview
This PhD position at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC Barcelona) focuses on investigating the cellular and metabolic roles of Carnitine Palmitoyltransferase 1C (CPT1C), an atypical enzyme linked to neuronal metabolism and glioblastoma. The project combines biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology to study CPT1C’s contribution to glucose metabolism in cancer cells and its interactions in neuronal contexts. The successful candidate will work with glioblastoma and neuronal models, employing techniques like CRISPR, metabolic assays, and protein interaction studies. The position offers multidisciplinary training and opportunities for conference presentations, collaboration, and teaching assistance in Health Sciences.
What you'll do
- Investigate the role of CPT1C in glucose metabolism and the Warburg phenotype in glioblastoma cells.
- Explore CPT1C’s function in the nervous system by identifying and validating novel interacting proteins in neuronal contexts.
- Perform experiments using glioblastoma cell models, neuronal/brain-derived samples, and CPT1C knockout/rescue strategies.
- Conduct protein interaction studies, metabolic assays, and molecular biology techniques (e.g., CRISPR, RT-qPCR, Western blot).
- Present research findings at national and international conferences and collaborate with other research groups.
- Participate in teaching activities at UIC Barcelona, up to 60 hours per academic year in Health Sciences subjects.
- Attend specialized courses to complement scientific training.
