Doctoral Position in Topochemical Tuning of Layered Oxides
Fully funded 4-year PhD position investigating topochemical transformations and synthesis of layered perovskite oxides at ETH Zurich.
Best for:Best for master's graduates in chemistry, physics, or materials science with a strong background in inorganic synthesis and solid-state materials.
Overview
The newly established Solid-State Materials Chemistry Group at the Laboratory of Inorganic Chemistry within ETH Zurich invites applications for a fully funded doctoral position. The project focuses on leveraging low-temperature soft-chemistry and thin-film synthesis to control crystal chemistry, dimensionality, and functionality in layered perovskites. The successful candidate will prepare precursors, develop post-growth topochemical reactions, and execute advanced structural and functional characterizations. The position offers a collaborative and stimulating research environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities to advance materials for future electronic and energy applications.
What you'll do
- Synthesize layered oxide precursors using techniques such as pulsed-laser deposition, floating zone methods, or hydrothermal synthesis.
- Develop and execute post-growth topochemical reactions utilizing solution-based and controlled-atmosphere methodologies.
- Characterize composition, crystal structure, and functional properties using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, scanning-probe microscopy, magnetometry, and electrical measurements.
- Conduct experiments at large-scale research facilities including the Paul Scherrer Institute.
- Disseminate research findings through scientific publications and presentations at international conferences.
- Collaborate actively with internal group members and international research partners.
