PhD Position: High Resolution Fluorescence Imaging of Protein Plasticity
Explore protein dynamics and microphase separation using quantitative single-molecule and super-resolution imaging.
Best for:Best for quantitative scientists, physicists, and biophysicists with a strong interest in applying advanced imaging and physical techniques to molecular biology.
Overview
The International PhD Programme (IPP) Mainz invites applications for a fully funded doctoral position within the Institute of Molecular Biology. Working in Edward Lemke's research group, the successful candidate will investigate intrinsically disordered proteins and protein plasticity using advanced single-molecule, microfluidics, and super-resolution techniques. The project focuses on understanding associative mechanisms and sub-resolution structures within the context of microphase separation and transcriptional regulation. Applicants from quantitative backgrounds such as physics, biophysics, and computational chemistry, as well as motivated life scientists, are encouraged to apply.
What you'll do
- Develop and apply quantitative single-molecule and super-resolution fluorescence imaging technologies to study protein dynamics.
- Investigate sub-resolution structures and associative mechanisms related to microphase separation and transcriptional regulation.
- Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team combining chemical biology, synthetic biology, and microfluidics.
- Participate in advanced scientific training programmes, professional development workshops, and core facility activities.
- Present research findings at internal meetings and international conferences, and contribute to scientific publications.
